Maundy Thursday, April 14

  • Worship service times: 6:30 pm

  • Location: Worship Center

Join us for worship through singing, scripture, the Lord's Supper, and prayer. We will focus our time together around some of the events of Jesus's final time with his disciples. It was here in the upper room, at the last supper, where Jesus gave his disciples a "new commandment". And, it is from the events on this Thursday before Jesus's death on Good Friday that we get the word "maundy". It means "commandment" or "mandate". Before Jesus went to the cross, He clearly explained His desire for those first disciples and for all of us:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." - John 13:34-35 ESV

Jesus is ALIVE and we want you to join us at Mt. Vernon to celebrate Easter with us this year! Easter is such a BIG celebration over all of Christianity. The Bible says that it is a part of what is most important. Truth is, many who will read this will approach the celebration of Easter with different perspectives...

  • Maybe you are ready and eager to celebrate Jesus this Easter.

  • Maybe you've attended church a lot over your lifetime, but you feel like you've sort of wandered from God, and now you're considering stepping toward God again.

  • Maybe you've heard the story of Easter many times, but honestly, you're still just not quite sure the resurrection of Jesus is real.

  • Maybe recent events in the world have discouraged you, or things have happened that cause you to feel like trust is hard, your life is hard, hope seems impossible.

Our Mt. Vernon family wants to invite you to join us this Easter to discover that Easter means rescue is possible. Easter means hope comes to hurting people. Easter means life comes to dead places. Come be reminded that because Jesus is alive, it makes all of the difference for every one of us. Easter means hope is alive for this life and beyond. And hope is alive because Jesus is alive!

"I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him. For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church."

- 1 Corinthians 15:3-9
